Arimidex contains Anastrozole, a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor that selectively blocks the conversion of androgens to estrogens by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme.

By lowering estrogen levels, Arimidex reduces estrogen-driven tumor growth, primarily in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer.

Common:

• Hot flashes, sweating

• Joint pain (arthralgia) and stiffness

• Fatigue

• Nausea

• Headache

Serious / Severe:

• Osteoporosis / bone loss increased risk of fractures

• Cardiovascular events (rare: stroke, myocardial infarction)

• Severe musculoskeletal pain

• Liver function abnormalities (rare)

• Mood changes / depression

• Bone Health: Monitor bone mineral density; consider calcium/vitamin D supplementation and bisphosphonates if needed.

• Cardiovascular Risk: Monitor in patients with history of heart disease.

• Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Contraindicated; may harm fetus.

• Liver Function: Use caution in hepatic impairment; monitor liver enzymes.
