Atazor-R Tablet is a fixed-dose combination of Atazanavir (a protease inhibitor) and Ritonavir (a pharmacokinetic booster).
Ritonavir enhances the plasma concentration of Atazanavir, thereby improving its antiviral effectiveness. This medicine is part of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) used in the management of HIV-1 infection.

Common:

• Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain

• Headache, fatigue

• Jaundice (yellowing of skin/eyes due to bilirubin rise)

• Rash

• Lipid level changes

Serious (rare):

• Severe liver toxicity

• Kidney stones / gallstones

• Cardiac conduction abnormalities (PR interval prolongation)

• Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

• Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS)

• Must be prescribed under HIV specialist supervision

• Regular monitoring of liver function, kidney function, and lipid profile required

• Not recommended in patients with severe liver impairment

• Caution in patients with cardiac conduction abnormalities

• Avoid use with certain medicines (rifampicin, proton pump inhibitors, ergot derivatives, some antiarrhythmics, etc.) due to serious drug interactions

• Contraindicated in pregnancy unless benefits outweigh risks; safe alternatives preferred

• Should always be taken with food for best absorption
