2. Product Description

Aldesleukin is a recombinant human interleukin-2 (IL-2), an immunotherapy drug.
It works by activating lymphocytes (T-cells, NK cells, LAK cells) and enhancing their ability to attack cancer cells.

It is mainly used in the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma and metastatic melanoma in selected patients.

5. Side Effects

Common:

• Fever, chills, fatigue

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Loss of appetite, weight loss

• Hypotension (low BP), dizziness

• Skin rash, pruritus

Serious / Severe:

• Capillary Leak Syndrome: severe hypotension, edema, fluid accumulation

• Cardiac toxicity: arrhythmias, myocardial infarction

• Pulmonary edema, respiratory distress

• Renal dysfunction: oliguria, increased creatinine

• CNS effects: confusion, hallucinations, somnolence

• Severe infections due to immunomodulation

6. Precautions

• Restricted Use: Should only be administered in hospital/oncology centers with intensive care support.

• Monitoring Required: Blood pressure, cardiac function, renal & hepatic parameters, CBC throughout therapy.

• Capillary Leak Syndrome: Watch for sudden weight gain, edema, breathing difficulty.

• Contraindications: Patients with poor cardiac, lung, liver, or kidney function.

• Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Contraindicated; potential fetal harm.

• Drug Interactions: Caution with corticosteroids, antihypertensives, nephrotoxic or hepatotoxic drugs.

• Hydration: Patients may need IV fluids and supportive therapy.
