2. Product Description

Cymgal 450 mg Tablet contains Valganciclovir, an antiviral medication and a prodrug of Ganciclovir.
It is rapidly converted into ganciclovir after oral administration, which inhibits viral DNA synthesis and replication.

It is primarily prescribed for the treatment and prevention of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, especially in immunocompromised patients such as HIV/AIDS patients, organ transplant recipients, and cancer patients.

• Treatment of active CMV retinitis in HIV/AIDS patients.

• Prophylaxis (prevention) of CMV infection and disease in patients who have received solid organ transplants.

• May also be used in other CMV-related infections in immunocompromised individuals, as directed by a physician.

Common:

• Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain

• Headache, fatigue, fever

• Decreased appetite

• Anemia, leukopenia (low WBC count), thrombocytopenia (low platelets)

Serious / Severe:

• Bone marrow suppression (severe neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia)

• Kidney dysfunction (elevated creatinine)

• Seizures, confusion, hallucinations (rare but possible)

• Hypersensitivity reactions

• Potential carcinogenicity, teratogenicity (seen in animal studies)

• Blood Disorders: Regular blood counts are necessary due to risk of bone marrow suppression.

• Kidney Function: Dose adjustment required in renal impairment; monitor renal function regularly.

• Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Contraindicated may cause fetal harm and genetic damage; avoid in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

• Contraception: Both men and women should use effective contraception during treatment and for some time after stopping.

• Drug Interactions: Avoid co-administration with drugs causing bone marrow suppression (e.g., zidovudine, mycophenolate) or nephrotoxic drugs (e.g., cyclosporine, tacrolimus, amphotericin B).
