Cisplatin (Celplat/Platinol) is a platinum-containing chemotherapy drug that causes DNA cross-linking, leading to apoptosis (cell death).

Common:

• Ototoxicity (hearing loss, tinnitus, irreversible in some cases)

• Renal Function: Must monitor serum creatinine & electrolytes before and after each cycle. Adequate hydration and mannitol diuresis are required.

• Antiemetic Prophylaxis: Required (5-HT3 antagonists, NK1 antagonists, dexamethasone).

• Electrolytes: Monitor Mg, K, Ca, and supplement if needed.

• Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Contraindicated teratogenic.

• Drug Interactions: Concomitant use with nephrotoxic drugs (aminoglycosides, amphotericin B) increases renal risk.

• Extravasation Risk: Cisplatin is a vesicant can cause severe tissue necrosis if leaked outside the vein.
